The History of Boxer Dogs Playing Poker
Cassius Marcellus Clay, the wry commercial artist who gave the world dogs playing poker, was born in upstate New York in 1844. He was named after the abolitionist Quaker,Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, one of the most eloquent anti-slavery politicians of the antebellum South, Kentucky Sen.
Cash, as his friends and family would call him, had never received any formal art training. Though, by the time he was 20, he was a draftsman and frequently had his sketches featured in the local newspaper. A short time later, he had one of his drawings published in Harpers Weekly and subsequently came to be the inventor of "comic foregrounds", where tourists place their head through a hole in a painting, appearing to have a comical muscular body for photographs. Coolidge caught the attention of the Brown & Bigelow Company in 1903. The commisioned him to create a series of comical paintings for their advertisin calendars. World Series of Poker Mania
The popularity of the World Series of Poker gained tremendous
momentum from The Travel Channel's World Poker Tour showings.
Although the event had been showing for a number of years on
cable, when new technologies such as the table camera were used,
television watchers began getting involved in the hands as they
were being played.
Other advancements will also take place since the purchase of
the World Series of Poker (WSOP) from Binion's in 2004 by
Harrah's. They will need them because of the sheer increase in
the number of players entering the tournament. In 2003 when
Chris Moneymaker won the title and $2,500,000, there were 839
entrants. In 2004 Gregory Paul Raymer became champion after
defeating 2576 players and was rewarded with $5,000,000. For
2005, the WSOP will be estimated to have over 7500 players
hammering each other for a top prize of $6,000,000. And most
of these will come from Internet poker rooms. A significant
number of online poker rooms will host online tournaments to
sponsor seats to the WSOP main event with buy ins that are
far less than the $10,000 fee.

It is one thing to be playing cards in your neighbor's or friend's den but quite another to be involved in the World Series of Poker.
Tom Moore started the World Series of Poker in 1968 in Reno, Nevada.
Perhaps it is the money that is the key focus of the WSOP.
If you want to compete in the World Series of Poker, then you are going to have to hone your game skills.
He wanted to show other casinos and players that poker was a worthwhile venture. Up until this time, many casinos did not feature poker because they believed that it was too hard to control cheating. Perhaps it was but Benny Binion and his sons changed all that and helped catapult WSOP into the stratosphere of the elite gamers, with such games as Texas Hold Em and Five Card Stud.
